In case you had any lingering doubts about what Fox News is...
As Jim Jordan tried to ascend to speaker of the House, Sean Hannity and Brian Kilmeade showed their true color: MAGA red
As Jim Jordan, the hard-right Republican from Ohio, attempted to force his way into being elected speaker of the House of Representatives, his friends at Fox News were there to help.
Sean Hannity, perhaps Fox’s biggest name now that Tucker Carlson is mercifully gone, went so far as to reach out personally to Republican legislators who were still on the fence about voting for one of the worst imaginable candidates for speaker.
He called several congress members, and instructed his producer to reach out in writing to others to try to whip up the votes. She wrote, in a thinly disguised bit of bullying, “Hannity would like to know why during a war breaking out between Israel and Hamas, with the war in Ukraine, with the wide open borders, with a budget that’s unfinished, why would (the representative) be against Rep. Jim Jordan for speaker.”
Late last week, Hannity tweeted in favor of Jordan, absurdly calling him a “natural born principled leader.” He even provided the switchboard number for the House of Representatives and told his followers to call their representative to press for Jordan.
Hannity, over the years, has described himself as a journalist and as not a journalist, depending on how the wind was blowing.
He’s definitely not a journalist, but he is the most recognizable face of a big media company that would have you believe they deserve to be viewed as a legitimate news organization. Not the case.
Fox is “a right-wing political operation disguised as journalism,” as former Chicago Tribune editor Mark Jacob succinctly put it.
Hannity is the worst offender, by far, and he’s been guilty for a while. (You might recall his appearance on stage at a Trump rally a few years ago, an offense for which he received a mild rebuke from his corporate bosses.)
But his Fox colleague Brian Kilmeade — co-host of the execrable Fox & Friends — did his part.
