But, if they are truly sincerely innocent, “I didn’t know“, talk to them more gently and get them to understand. (There really are people like this. Probably a lot of them.) Don’t alienate them. If you have any chance of converting them, they have to have a friendly place to go. One more thought: the thing that they really won’t be able to deal with is being laughed at.
