Last week, there was drama at the New York Times. Of course, there’s always drama at the Times; it seems baked in to this large, dominant and influential news organization. I experienced that often when I was the paper’s public editor, or reader representative, from 2012 to 2016.
Given the numerous problems at the NYTimes, including the myopic #ButHisAge coverage there, I think it's long past time they got a serious comeuppance. Clearly, they haven't learned their lessons from the last 8 years on how NOT to produce journalism.
This weekend's sensationalist headlines driven by an antiBiden 980 person Fake News Times poll is the latest effort by some of the paper's most arrogant journalists, analysts and media performers to aggragate to themselves the rights to decide who the Democrats should run for President.
Really? Who do these people think they are and how long do they think millions of us will keep our subscriptions up to pay them for dangerous falsehoods.
Maybe some of the larger media outlets are just too big and powerful. Like anything else that accumulates excessive power, their power has corrupted them.
I'm not sure democracy can survive in an information environment where we can have large "go to" media sources. Citizens need to start taking more responsibility for the way they source information, or we can stand by and watch democracy burn.
The crescendo of this drum beat is getting louder - for the time being on platforms other than major media outlets.
My sense is that messages such as yours are telling a needed story which will, hopefully, be repeated over and over.
The incredible irony here is that Biden respects the NY Times and agent orange is a monster who wants to remove their First Amendment protections (namely seeking the overturning of NT Times vs Sullivan).
Please note - the agent orange meltdowns and his stopping the much needed immigration bill have begun to silence his most ardent supporters at his rallies. All this as Biden is just beginning to take on the last (loser) prez.
It’s reported that Biden intends to finally take the fight directly to Trump, in part by spotlighting Trump’s outrageous statements and gaffes, along with Trump’s embarrassing record of election losses. The media loves a fight and Biden’s aiming to give them one. I suspect the media frenzy over Biden’s age will be replaced by the issue of each candidate’s fitness for office. (At least until the political press gets distracted by the next shiny non-issue.)

Watched the CNN clip. Two great journalists. Thanks, Margaret. Have circulated.

Thank you Margaret for continuing this drumbeat.

All: here’s a gift link to that Washington Post article, in case the other one doesn’t get you past the paywall https://wapo.st/3P1S94r
Just fyi . . . the link to Wagner's story does not get behind the paywall (and I canceled my subscription a couple of months ago).
