One of THE best podcasts I've ever heard. Ruth Ben-Ghiat knows her subject matter, explains it in a lively, clear, articulate way, and is a big-picture thinker who can show how the threads of an authoritiarian strategy come together to form a snare: make sure weapons are readily available so that when you claim YOU are being attacked as you protect the "little people", those little people will feel they have to protect you while also being so frightened that political violence looks patriotic and necessary. I'll be buying Ruth's book, and I truly appreciate this outstanding, top-notch podcast.
